When it comes to non-fiction books, I admit I tend not to read many of them. A lot of them these days seem to be more about making themselves look good and a play by play of all the celebrities they've met along the way.
But one book caught my eye just before Christmas last year, accidentally really when I began to follow the lovely Helen at Literally PR over on Twitter. She was working on promoting Jess Impiazzi's book Silver Linings.
Now all I knew of Jess is what I'd seen of her when she was on Celebrity Big Brother however her story even then captured me, she was definitely more than the media wanted to portray her as. This woman's journey has been less than straight forward and it is here in her book that she goes into depth about the struggles she (and others in her family) have faced.
When one door closes, and another plan is derailed, it’s time to seek out the ‘Silver Linings’ and step up to the challenge. Jess Impiazzi’s journey of self-discovery, hard lessons, heart-breaking moments, self-care and openness to transformation make for a raw, authentic and inspiring story about how to follow dreams, overcome challenges and celebrate kindness in many forms.
The book itself is quite short, but that doesn't make it any less powerful.
Jess clearly writes from the heart.
Broken down into various chapters we get an insight pretty much everything. Fro her family, relationships and friendships, to her work timeline and what she has achieved for some well deserving charities.
* Behind the scenes of popular reality TV shows including Celebrity Big Brother and Ex on the Beach.
* Surviving and thriving through betrayal and divorce with England rugby international Denny Solomona.
* Living through anxiety, depression and attempted suicide.
* Pursuing a career in acting and the good, the bad and the ugly of life in the limelight. * Finding happiness working as an active ambassador for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
She has been through a lot in her life and despite all of the set-backs, she has managed to carry on through the dark time. Providing inspiration for others.
This book really shows the good, the bad and the ugly.
It is raw, I could feel the emotions simmering as I read.
At 30 years old, Jess has seen, heard and done so much more than many of us could ever hope to do in our lifetime. And what I can say with real honesty is that she is both beautiful inside and out.
Certainly made me pause and think.
I think what was most refreshing was that Jess wasn't afraid to admit her mistakes, what she did was own them, learned from them and grew from them. Taking charge of the hands she'd been dealt. Her self belief and growing confidence was felt with every turn of the page.
Jess writes movingly, openly and with humour about her time in front of the camera as a model and on popular television shows and films. We learn what it really takes to get through the myriad auditions and what actuallyhappens behind the scenes of reality TV – and what happens to the stars once the show ends.
We all need to be looking for the positives amongst the doom and gloom that can sometimes surround us.
From caring for her mum to following her own dreams, this is a woman who truly knows what silver linings are.
Truly inspring!
A short yet meaningful read that shouldn't be looked over for more 'well known' celebrity non-fiction books.
