The Wrong Man by Kate White - The Blog Tour

In recent years my genre of choice has tended to be YA but these past few months I've leaned more towards crime, mystery and thriller. So when I was asked if I would like to join the blog tour for Kate White's latest novel, The Wrong Man, well honestly I just couldn't say no.

This is what I would describe as a cat and mouse psychological thriller and surprisingly it is written by the editor of Cosmopolitan so not something you'd necessarily imagine her to be conjuring up in her spare time!

She wanted to be more daring, but one small risk is about to cost her everything—maybe even her life.

Bold and adventurous in her work as owner of one of Manhattan's boutique interior design firms, Kit Finn couldn't be tamer in her personal life. While on vacation in the Florida Keys, Kit resolves to do something risky for once. When she literally bumps into a charming stranger at her hotel, she decides to make good on her promise and act on her attraction. But back in New York, when Kit arrives at his luxury apartment ready to pick up where they left off in the Keys, she doesn't recognise the man standing on the other side of the door. Was this a cruel joke or part of something truly sinister? Kit soon realises that she's been thrown into a treacherous plot, which is both deeper and deadlier than she could have ever imagined. Now the only way to protect herself, her business, and the people she loves is to find out the true identity of the man who has turned her life upside down. 

The story begins with protagonist Kit Finn on a sort of business trip come short break. She's just come out of a relationship and in all honesty her life has become somewhat stale. What's a girl to do? Take a few risks? And what could be more risky or should we say raunchy than a one night stand.

Not what she would normally do but life's about living right or so they say.

After giving him her business guy, he reaches out as she's travelling home arranging a dinner date, so actually at this point her risk taking seems to have paid off. That is until she arrives at what she thought was his apartment and is introduced to the 'real' Matt Healy and to her surprise/horror this is not the same man that she met on vacation.

What follows after is nothing short of sinister...

Kit fears she has become unintentionally embroiled in a sinister web of deceit. With no real evidence to take to the police, Kit resolves to unravel the mystery herself. But can she do so before more lives, including her own, are put in danger?

As I read I was just as eager as Kit to solve the mystery that was unfolding, not a an absolute page turner as I'll admit I was able to put it down and come back to it at different times but it's pace was fast enough that I remained interested.

I liked the little red herrings thrown in along the way, keeping the suspense going and having me second guessing who I thought were the real culprits. And I will also say that I'm a sucker for romance so the secondary plot of a possible relationship kept me happy too, I'd be thrilled if a second book was written with these characters with more of a romantic theme.

Shortly after, the police ask her to identify a man killed in a hit and run, carrying only her business card, and she is shocked to find the dead man is the person she knows as the genuine Matt Healy.

With all of the twists and turns we actually get a solid ending, no lose ends, this I found almost refreshing as there are so many books that leave things 'open' these days.

Kit is a smart and ballsy heroine, the only thing that I would have liked is a bit more emotion. Some of the interactions came across as almost robotic, not enough passion behind the responses, you could say overly casual.

Over all, The Wrong Man is a good read, I'd say if the crime/thriller genre is your thing but you want something a bit more light hearted for the summer months then this is definitely the book you should choose.
