Baking and Slime Creating #LittleLoves

As we near the end of our second week of the Easter holidays, am I looking forward to the kids going back to school? The short answer to that would be no. I actually despise sending them back to school, back to the chaos of school runs and homework, the reality of not enough hours in the day. Despite having a fairly good routine with all of my girls, it still feels like we're always trying to 'catch up' on things.

It's not been the best weather wise this week, you know that normal mix of lots of rain and hints of sunshine but we've certainly made the most of our time even though we didn't have much of a budget (helped with a couple of lazy days thrown in).

Read

Funnily enough I've not really had any time for reading this week, the kids have read more than me. We've had two trips to the library whilst they've been off. I think it's great to keep them reading when not at school but better that they can choose books that they really enjoy. This also meant that my ten year old was more inclined to get on with her homework of a book review because she'd picked a book based on her likes rather than just her abilities.

The one book I did read was another one from Netgalley. You Were Made For This by Michelle Sacks was an unexpected tale, it was not what I'd assumed from reading the blurb but I was pleasantly surprised. It's a mystery/thriller and certainly one to get the cogs turning. It looks at our perceptions of others and that saying about judging a book by its cover (like I did!). Definitely one I'd recommend.

Watched

After finally finishing all ten seasons of Friends, I had to find something else to binge watch on Netflix.

Move over Friends and make way for the Great British Bake Off. I've never watched them from the beginning so I have started with season one. It's quite funny to see the difference from what it was then to what it is now. I'm pretty sure Mary Berry has had botox lol. It began in such a serious manner, the comedy side of things seemed to be gradually sieved in (nice baking reference). I've already got to the end of season 3.

Something else I've been watching, a total guilty pleasure of mine is Jersey Shore. I watched the show years ago and they've just done a reunion series and it's still just as trash-tastic as it used to be. Definitely a programme that you needn't concentrate on but one to make you laugh if you're in need of cheering up.

Heard

It was my husband that actually introduced me to my new favourite song this week, Clavin Harris featuring Dua Lipa, One Kiss. This could be my song for the Summer.

Made

I planned one day this week specifically for "making things". We spent a good part of our day baking all sorts of cakes, biscuits and cookies. I'll tell you my waist line is not thanking me for the holidays but who can resist cake and the remaining Easter eggs, if you can then you are definitely a better person than me. My eldest two were determined to make some things by themselves again,  the twelve year old attempted to making what she called snow globe biscuits.

After all the baking it was onto the messy stage of slime making. I'd ordered the correct ingredients from Amazon after using the wrong contact lens solution previously and creating what can only be described as a runny mess. This time round we were using recipes from the Slime Workshop book and the girls (and myself) were more than a little pleased that it actually worked this time, I'm still finding glitter everywhere though.

Wore

As a family, we've all been wearing scruffy clothes a lot as we've taken the opportunity whilst off to go for plenty of walks, most of which have been fairly muddy due to the ongoing rain but with lighter evenings we've wanted to make the most of getting outdoors and not being tied down to getting home for bed times.

And again, not what I wore but then my outfits haven't changed recently. The youngest has taken to wearing her new Vampirina costume more often than not. I love that she's still at an age where dressing up is still fun and inviting.

And lastly . . .

I'm actually off out tomorrow night with some mums from school. To say I am excited would be an understatement. Going out by myself doesn't happen very often at all, I've got the dilemma of what the hell do I wear? The husband is anticipating that I will come home in a somewhat drunken state. I hope he also realises that I will also require a McDonalds breakfast the following morning to soak up the alcohol!

Happy weekend everyone.
