Read With Me 2018 #4

Hello and welcome to this weeks Read With Me, first question how is it the end of January already? It's another year just flying by isn't it.

Before I share this weeks favourite post with you, I wanted to talk to you about a company that I've recently started working with. Barrington Stoke are a company that are making books accessible for everyone, more specifically those diagnosed with dyslexia and for those who simply find reading difficult.

These award winning books are designed to open up the world of reading to more children, from the age of three right up to those awkward teen years. So anyone from pre-school going up to those at secondary school.

Super-readable, dyslexia-friendly fiction by the best authors in the UK

The way these books are presented can make a huge difference to how a child sees a book. Subtle differences like making the pages an off white colour instead of bright white, simpler vocabulary, shapely fonts and plenty of breaks in text to allow children time to rest and build an excitement up to read more.

Before I got in touch with Barrington Stoke I hadn't heard of books being published in this way but now I have, I'd really like to spread the word because books are such an amazing tool, everybody should have the opportunity to read stories, especially ones written by such fantastic authors like Julia Donaldson and Michael Morpurgo.

"We focus on the action, the emotion and the excitement."

As well as this post I will be telling my girls' school all about this initiative because wouldn't it be nice to help more children to grow a real love for reading. I hope you'll join me in telling more people. Lets see if we can share some cracking reading and break down the barriers that have built up around those more reluctant readers!

Now for more book love, my favourite post last week came from Shell Louise with her review of the novel, The Stranger.

On to the link up. Newbies do look at the Read With Me page, regulars get linking (max of 2 posts/videos), comment on a couple of other posts and perhaps consider displaying my badge of linking back somehow.

Happy reading

  1. I have no idea of how we've got to the end of January already! I've heard of these sorts of books before. A lot of schools also have hi-lo readers, for kids who learn more slowly, so older kids aren't restricted to reading Biff and Chip just because their ability isn't great - they can read simple language in a more exciting story.

  3. Sounds a great idea. Reminds me of when I reviewed Vera McLuckie and the Daydream Club last year. Published by Your Stories Matter who have a similar aim
