Ok so you've probably seen the craze for the slime that you can make at home, well I tried it and I'll be honest it was a disaster, not sure what I did wrong but all I can say is what a mess. So instead of trying again I decided to test out something less messy, and that was moon sand.
This easy peasy homemade moon sand, only takes 3 ingredients (well 2 if you leave out the cocoa) and honestly you can't go wrong when making it.
Now I love this moon sand for many reasons. One it keeps the kids entertained for hours and I mean hours. Two it is cheap to make and when made can be stored in a container for future uses and three unlike all the dreaded pots of play doh where all the colours can be mixed together (screams in fright), this is one colour and won't be tread all over the carpet.
The moon sand is perfect for both sunny and rainy days. Sit out in the garden with it or pop a mat down inside and get creative.

So now you're probably wondering just how to make this stuff....
All you need is 1/2 cup of plain flour, 4 cups of baby oil and and 1/8 cup of cocoa powder. Simply mix together the flour and cocoa powder first and then pour in the baby oil, stir until it is all incorporated.
You can of course double or even triple the quantities to make larger amounts depending on how many children you have playing with the moon sand at once.
My kids loved it, the added cocoa powder gave it a chocolate scent and of course there are no nasty ingredients so it is perfectly safe for children of all ages.
Moon sand allows kids to get creative. They can make whatever they like, whether that's building things like castles or making shapes. Even getting smaller toys and burying them and creating a sort of treasure hunt.

Why not give it a go yourself and let me know how you get on in the comments below.
oooh this is fab, I'll have to show it to Olivia. We too had a disaster with the slime and all we made was a complete mess #pocolo

ReplyDeleteWe made this over the summer. We never thought of making it chocolate scented though. What a clever idea x

It's funny, I thought LP would like moon sand but it turns out he doesn't. He doesn't like getting his hands into anything that looks dirty. Mud is fine, but moon sand - oh no! 😂
