I am a mum of four girls and I've not failed to notice all the news lately going on about genders and how we shape a child with the things we give them. Just to go against a lot of what has been said, my daughters are fairly stereotypical, they love princesses, make-up, there is a lot of pink in our house (although daddy wears pink too).
But that's not stopped them liking other things, they like getting dirty whilst exploring, they go out with their dad whilst he goes shooting with his air rifle and they enjoy playing with Lego, dinosaurs and other things considered more boy friendly. They've always made their own choices when it comes to what they like.
Now last week saw the launch of two fantastic dinosaur themed books from two of my favourite publishers, Little Tiger and Buster Books and my girls were most thrilled when we were gifted with a copy of each book (so was I), I can't be the only one that gets excited at a bit of book post can I? And what I noticed straight away is that they can't be criticised of being aimed at a particular gender as the colour of the books are what most people would consider neutral.
The Book of Prehistoric Beasts from Buster Books
This fantastic, hard covered books has so many layers to it. Not only do you get taken back in time, learning about the history of ancient creatures, fish, animals and dinosaurs, there is the added element that you get to colour them in too.
COLOUR AND DISCOVER
The book is jam packed with facts, profiles, stories and even sizing estimated. Every page has something wonderfully fascinating on it. Everything is split into four chapters focusing on different periods of time and altogether it covers a huge 400 million years of prehistoric time.
What I love about this book is that it can appeal to so many children. The colouring can be done from ages 3 and onwards and with all the information there is so much that can be learned as the child ages, this would be handy for some sort of history project!
Nibbles the Dinosaur Guide from Little Tiger
Nibbles the book monster is back with his insatiable appetite and this time he has chomped his way into a book of dinosaurs, what little readers must do is stop the mischievous monster from getting himself eaten by those creatures.
DANGER WILD BOOK MONSTER INSIDE
This is a sort of encyclopedia for dinosaurs and what I like about this one is it breaks down how to pronounce the dinosaur names, I struggle with some of them so it's handy for the parent too. There are facts to be learned but also fun to be had with flaps to lift and holes to peek through.
Another entertaining books, with jokes amongst the facts, children and adults will find themselves laughing as they chase Nibbles through the book. The question remains though, can Nibbles be caught?
Both books appeal to the masses, young or old, boy or girl, these books don't discriminate. What they offer is a way to learn through reading, a tool that can bring families together as they turn the pages. Both The Book of Prehistoric Beasts and Nibbles The Dinosaur are both available to purchase now and I highly recommend that you buy both!
What beautiful looking books. And who isn't fascinated by dinosaurs? I know I am!
