Burgers, Shakes and Baconnaise - Gourmet Burger Kitchen Review

Who doesn't like a good burger and fries? They are one of the best comfort foods in my opinion. One of my favourite burger restaurants to visit is GBK (Gourmet Burger Kitchen), so when I was asked if my family and I would like to enjoy a meal on them at their newly opened restaurant located at the Lockmeadow complex in Maidstone, it was just a case of sorting out when we could there, preferably ASAP.

For those who haven't visited one of their restaurants before let me tell you a little a bit about them. They are a burger joint that offer perfectly cooked burgers (beef, chicken, lamb and veggies versions) in a number of flavour combinations, some of these combos may sound strange but I'm telling you they are well worth trying. The inside of the restaurants have an American diner sort of vibe going on with a nice chilled out atmosphere.

We were greeted by friendly staff on arrival and taken to the table which had been reserved for us. The kids were given menus that have colouring and puzzles on them, a nice bit of freebie entertainment whilst the parents peruse the contents of their own menus. Ordering was as simple as remembering your table number and placing our order at the bar, staff even read the order back to us making sure nothing had been missed.

With a mix of starters, sides and mains as well as desserts and an extensive drinks menu including some utterly glorious milkshakes, there is literally something for everyone to get their teeth stuck in to. Burgers and chips are displayed separately on the menu, something which I like as it's easier to pick the combination that you like. One of our favourite things to order is their onion ring stacks, lets just say one is never enough.

When ordering my children tend to opt for the chicken burger and the skinny fries, although this time round my eldest managed to persuade her dad to let her have a panko chicken burger from the adult menu. I'll always opt for the naked burger option, replacing the bun with a tasty salad instead, I will admit to swiping some fries from the kids though and then there's my husband who will always double up on his patty, this time he ordered the yummy Bourbon burger.

There wasn't a long wait for our food to arrive, it was all freshly cooked and what's nice is that all the meals came out at the same time and this meant that we wasted no time in tucking in to the delights in front of us. A quote from my eldest daughter "the baconnaise is simply amazing!", even more so when eaten with sweet potato fries, that is some addictive food right there, their homeslaw is also something that musn't be missed.

After finishing our meals, ok we didn't quite manage to clear our plates (there was SO MUCH food), we were offered teas and coffees but in all honesty there just wasn't any room left, we were more than ready to go home and settle ourselves into a nice food coma although I would have quite happily taken the remains home in a doggy bag, I mean no-one likes to see food go to waste now do they and I'm sure after a nap I could have devoured the rest.

The Lockmeadow Gourmet Burger Kitchen is definitely worth visiting, with a cinema, trampolining park and bowling there on the complex too you can easily make a day out of it.  If burgers and shakes are your thing but you want a slower pace to the normal 'fast food' then GBK certainly ticks the boxes nicely and just incased you missed it earlier, it's worth a visit simply for the wonder that is baconnaise.
