Changing the Face of Confidence

Over the years I've come to realise that beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. As a teenager I began to wear make up, not because I felt I needed it but because it was all my friends were doing but by the time I reached my twenties I became reliant on it, hiding behind it. I lost confidence in my own face.

Now that I've reached my thirties I've done a u-turn and have begun to gain a bit of my confidence back. Most mornings I don't have time to brush my hair let alone put on a full face of make up, the most you will see me wearing is a bit of mascara and eye liner.

The bags under my eyes are on full show, showing the tiredness that parenting brings. Persistent spots are there for everyone to see, I'm no longer embarrassed by them because lets be honest they are out of my control and I'm not the only one to have them either. These marks and colours on my face don't define who I am do they?

Having four daughters I want to be able to show them that make up isn't a necessary part of life. By all means wear it but don't hide behind it. There will always be people out there who will want to criticise you but that's normally because they are reflecting their own securities on to you.

We shouldn't be afraid to be our natural selves and lets be honest, how much time will you be saving if you don't have to put all that 'face paint' on every morning, I know I'd prefer a few extra minutes in bed these days.

Just because I wanted to practice what I preach I've took a series of photos which you can see below, going from a full face of make up, going backwards to the different stages of eyeshadow, concealer, foundation etc, stripped right back to me being oh natural, flaws and all.

Now I'll admit I think I look better fully made up however I'm more than happy with the me without it all too. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all feel a bit more comfortable in our own skins, really changing the face of confidence.

  2. It's horrible to say but everyone looks better with make up on. Hiding any flaws they have...You still look fab without it though.
I used to wear make up every day....Then I had kids. Now I only wear make up for a night out. Life is too short to spend half an hour putting a face on. I'm happy without make up.

  3. Love this Chantelle! I'm very careful about wearing too much makeup becuase of a very impressionable 7 year old. I don't think it's healthy to wear too much, kind of defeats the object because your skin can't breathe and gets more clogged up! I've generally been very lucky that I don't need to wear much anyway and once you start, it can become the norm. And I'm with Kim (above), I don't have the time to put it on properly every day!

  4. Love this! It's amazing how different you look, but you're still beautiful! I've never worn make-up, I don't even possess any.
I didn't realise you had trouble with your skin. Ihave battled skin problems since I was 12 and still have them now, but I take the view you do - it's not my fault, I can't do anything about it and there's nothing 'wrong' with it.

    1. I've had problems all my life due to eczema, it is permanent around my nose and I'm always being asked if I've got a cold, think we grow thicker skin as such don't we, learn to let those comments not affect us.

  5. Love this - and you do look different with and without makeup, but beautiful inside and out in each of the photos. Thanks for sharing with #PoCoLo x

  6. I'm currently sitting bare faced in the coffee shop whilst waiting for a service wash at the launderette and am make up free with hair tied up in a bobble, once I've made the beds and put the bins out, i will do my hair and apply make up before going out to meet friends for the afternoon and evening, because I want to and I'm happy both ways, with and without make up #PoCoLo

    1. and that's it, we should feel happy to wear make up or not but because we want to not because society wants us to.

  7. I think it's so much better to feel confident without the make up. But I do agree that sometimes the make up is a necessary evil. I can't stand wearing it every day but I will occasionally put on a touch of mascara and lippy. :)
