My youngest daughter is quite the fan of dinosaurs, it was the first thing that she wanted to see at the Natural History Museum, so when I was offered the chance to review I Am Not a Dinosaur I just knew that I had to say yes.
A long long time ago, strange beasts roamed Earth, both high and low, from huge to tiny, sky to shore... but - each was not a dinosaur!
Written by Will Lach and illustrated by Jonny Lambert, this book is quite wonderful. Based on the collections of specimens held in the American Museum of Natural History, it goes to show children that yes there were dinosaurs but that there were also some pretty amazing other prehistoric creatures that existed.
With the use of both rhymes and captivating drawings, this book takes us on a journey through the ages, helped along with a timeline at the back of the book telling us just what period each animal came from.

This book is rather inspiring. Filled with plenty of facts but told in such a way that it remains fun to read, you will find yourself almost singing the words as you read.
In total there are 16 creatures to be discovered and I think once you've read the book they are ones that you won't forget in a hurry.

I Am Not a Dinosaur appeals to a wide range of children, the bright illustrations encourage little ones to get involved whilst the detailed facts at the back of the book entice older children to want to know more about the subject presented to them.
Priced at £10.99, this gorgeous hardback could definitely be a classic in the making.
