The Day I Picked My Husband's Clothes

dressing the husband

I love clothes and shoes and although I do like to keep an eye on the latest fashion trends I'm a big fan of dressing in what you like rather than being dictated to. This is one reason why I love having girls as I always get to choose such wonderful outfits for them but keeping their personalities shining through. Now my husband is a different ball game altogether, he has his own tastes (which is fine) but it makes it extremely difficult to buy clothing for him as it makes him kind of fussy.

He is what I like to call a clothes snob. He won't wear anything "cheap". If it comes from places like Primark even if it looks good he refuses to wear it. What he pays for one item of clothing, I could buy a whole outfit for the same price. But on the flip side of this, he's got a style that works for him and honestly it really does suit him. Brands he favours are Superdry, Lyle & Scott and Religion and he opts for jeans, polo tops and jumpers with either his Ugg boots or Nike Air Maxs and his newest must have, a flat cap!

Recently I was asked by House of Fraser if I could show them what I would dress my husband like for a day, they were providing me with up to £30 to help "style" him, but as I said above, my man has expensive taste so I wasn't sure if I could even buy anything for that sort of money. Tops tend to having a starting prce of around £50.

In the end I opted for looking at their sale items and after a bit of searching I managed to find a polo shirt in one of his favourite brands, Religion, costing £22.50 down from £45. A bit of a bargain right there. The only question remaining, what could he wear it with? As I said he has a style that works for him so apart from maybe choosing some cheaper brands every so often, really I wouldn't change the type of clothing he rocks, he looks good in what he wears and yes I am biased.

So routing through his wardrobe, bottom half wise it wasn't a tough decision, jeans or jeans? It was just a matter of picking a shade of denim. I then paired the chosen top and jeans with his trusty Nike trainers and his leather jacket which I absolutely love. This outfit would be perfect for day to day wear or even a night out to the pub with mates. It's smart yet casual, comfortable but it definitely looks like an effort has been made.

This was a task I really had fun with although I wish I could have got the husband to pose in my chosen outfit (he's a tad camera shy!) however he was willing to admit I made a good choice with the top that I purchased. How easy are you other halves to buy for, would you dress them for a day if given the chance? And if the answer is yes, would you opt for a style that they already like or would you completely change up their look?

  1. Nice selections. I don't like to buy stuff for my husband as I'm bound to breach the pocket rules, etc. that he seems to have.

  2. nice choice with the top. My husband is the same and will only go for designer clothing whereas I could buy loads for the same price.

  3. I love the choice of top. I buy most of my misters clothes, mainly because he is colour blind and I hate to think what he would choose ha x

  4. My husband is a clothes snob too! Will not wear things from George or Primark. I get that he wants nice clothes but honestly a white t-shirt is a white t-shirt!
