ROOM is the brand new film from director Lenny Abrahamson, based on the novel written by the talented Emma Donoghue.
His entire life 5 year old Jack has only known 'ROOM' : a 10 foot by foot space in which he is confined, with his Ma. But when Ma decides they have to escape, she risks everything to give Jack the chance to make a thrilling discovery: The World!
Now I will admit I'm a person who generally prefers to read the book before I watch the film, I like to conjur up all of the characters in my head but sometimes this leaves me comparing the two too much. So when I was asked if I would like to watch ROOM I have to admit I was intrigued because although I had heard of the book, I wasn't entirely sure what the storyline was so I went in with my mind wide open.
This is a movie which is hard to review without giving too much away, unless you have read the book previously of course but what I can say is that it is utterly compelling. It is both powerful and uplifting and quite honestly inspiring. The film is narrated by 5 year old Jack and we get to see things through innocence of a child's eyes. However Jack is no ordinary child, he has been through a lot, something that I could never quite imagine myself and he is grown beyond his years which shows in just how worldly he is and he only becomes more so as the film progresses.
The acting in this film is second to none and I think you would be hard pressed to not feel all the emotions that they portray. I honestly think this is a must see film this year. Filled with love and imagination galore, you will be taken on an emotional journey that I believe shows us to me ever so grateful for the world in which we live in!
