LeapFrog LeapPad Platinum Review

We are huge fans of LeapPads in our house, each year they seem to get better and better and I'm always left thinking that LeapFrog surely can't top what they've made but they manage to prove me wrong and they've only gone and done it again with the LeapPad Platinum.

I can see this being at the top of many kids Christmas lists this year. The newly designed 7" tablet is much faster and more powerful than any of its predecessors.

Available in purple and green, the LeapPad Platinum with its large high resolution multi touch screen is extremely responsive and with its graphics looking crisper and sharper, everything that appears on there really comes to life. The res has changed from 480x272 to a gigantic 1024x600 and I can honestly say the difference is  clear to see!

The changes can be seen as your kids begin to play. They have access to over 800+ games via the LeapPad's kid safe wifi and with all of them being reviewed and approved by learning experts, you know your kids will be making the most of their game play. And with double the memory compared to previous LeapPads, now boasting 8GB of space, you can download even more games to play.

What I was impressed with was the stylus. A nice soft, padded end, brilliant for younger users as they can't scratch the screen if they get too heavy handed!

Now you are probably thinking at this point that this tablet doesn't seem amazingly different to the others, well the biggest difference is the introduction of LeapFrog Imagicards.

These cards are very special indeed. At first they can be used by themselves, your children can play standard card games which lets be honest is quite fun in itself but these clever cards can be used in conjuction with the LeapPad Platinum to bring them to life.

Take photos, play games and unlock further fun with them. At the minute the cards available include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Paw Patrol.

My youngest was amazed when she took photos of the cards using the LeapPad and the characters literally started moving on the screen, she really thought it was magic!!

As with all other LeapPads, the LeapPad Platinum is educational and entertaining, promoting learning through play, and with the added Imagicard element it is truely magical game play at times.

My only complaint is that the Platinum is somewhat heavier than previous models but I think it has been made to be more robust so the added weight seems necessary.

Priced at £99.99, I do think it is a tablet worth investing in, especially for younger ones, as there are so many games to be bought/played, you can expand the game play and learning as your child gets old, so the tablet is able to work with your child no matter their age.

Disclaimer : I was sent this item FOC however all thoughts and opinions are my own.

  1. It looks really good, and with so many games, plenty to keep busy with, too. I think the weight is probably a good thing, as as you say, adds to it being more robust.
