Don't Look Back By Gregg Hurwitz Review

Recenly I was sent another book from Mumsnet. Don't Look Back is the latest novel by Gregg Hurwitz, a nail biting thriller that keeps you in suspense.

ALONE
It should have been the holiday of a lifetime - a chance for Eve Hardaway to rediscover herself following the break up of her marriage. But then she catches a glimpse of someone she should never have seen.

AFRAID
She was not the first, but the woman who first laid her eyes on the mysterious stranger has disappeared without a trace. And soon Eve's travelling companions start to follow.

ON THE RUN
Then a storm cuts off their remote jungle camp from the outside world, and Eve knows that if she is ever going to see her young son again, she will be forced to find reserves of courage and resourcefulness she never dremt she possessed. Or die trying…

After Eve goes through a divorce with her now ex husband Rick, she decides to take a holiday by herself, a chance to get away, to clear her head and find herself again.

Staying at Mexican Eco Lodge, the holiday starts well, she seems to be travelling with a good mixture of people including Claire the out spoken other single female and Will who is tagging along with his gay friend. On her first day she wanders off the track and comes face to face with a mysterious man, a frightening man throwing a machete at his target.

If this wasn't enough to scare her, she then finds a camera that was left behind in her room, the photos it contains has Eve starting to worry, images of the same man stare back at her. It puts doubts in her head about her decision to go on this break, especially when she discovers that the owner of the camera went missing.

For myself, this book started of a bit slow but by the end I understood why. Gregg slowly built on the pace of the story, adding to the tension and suspense.

What I really liked was the details of the place, I felt it was extremely informative, I was learning many facts as I was reading, the descriptions of their surroundings made everything seem even more dangerous.

The scenes played out like a movie, infact I think this would be even better if turned into a film, you definitely get pulled in, you feel like you are fighting along with the characters.

Overall it was an enjoyable read. A page turning, suspense filled novel that will have you on the edge of your seat and make your skin crawl at times. A must read, if only to find out just who will survive!!

  1. Sounds like a great present. I read lots of book reviews at this time of year to find books that might appeal to the male members of my family for Christmas!
